ZEE5 Global has released the trailer for 'Barzakh', directed by Asim Abbasi, known for his work on 'Churails' and 'Cake'. The series combines magical realism and supernatural fantasy in a family reunion setting. Set in the Hunza Valley, 'Barzakh' explores the intersection of the ordinary and the extraordinary.

The trailer reveals the story of a 76-year-old man who shocks his estranged family by announcing his wedding to the ghost of his first true love. This event leads to emotional revelations and confrontations as the family grapples with the situation. The trailer showcases the intricate weaving of folklore and the mystical backdrop of the Hunza Valley, raising the question: "When all has withered, will love endure?"

Fawad Khan commented, “It was amazing. I grew to love the people I was working with, and it felt like being at home. After having seen Cake, when I was approached for Barzakh, I jumped at the opportunity.” He appreciated Asim’s distinctive approach stating, “Asim’s work sets him apart as a very unique director whose emphasis is on character development in a way that is contemporary. Also, I've always wanted to attempt something out of the ordinary and Barzakh is nothing ordinary. It's downright experimental and I love it.

He expressed his enthusiasm for the project's experimental nature, praising the collaboration between Asim and Shailja for their complementary sensibilities. While keeping the show's theme a secret, he mentioned it involves a family reunion under supernatural circumstances.

Sanam Saeed said she was excited to reunite with Fawad Khan and share the screen with actors like Salman Shahid and Sajid Hasan, with whom she has worked closely in theatre. She further added, "Being part of 'Barzakh' has been an immensely rewarding experience for me. The show's premise, which explores themes of family, love, loss, and the afterlife, fascinated me from the start. As an actor, I'm constantly seeking roles that challenge me and offer a fresh perspective on storytelling. ‘Barzakh’ does just that, presenting a narrative that transcends conventional boundaries and delves into the realms of the mystical and the unknown. From the minute Asim narrated the story to me, I instantly knew that I had to be a part of this project.”

'Barzakh' will premiere on ZEE5 Global starting July.19, with new episodes released every Tuesday and Friday at 8 pm IST.
