World leaders urged to bring about change

212 world religions and 95 countries attend the Parliament of the World's Religions at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center

At a recent gathering of the Parliament of World’s Religions, spiritual and religious leaders from across the world discussed social issues confronting the planet with the convention in Chicago creating a platform for an inclusive inter-faith dialogue drawing on the wisdom and rich traditions with a view to addressing global problems.

According to a release of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) this year’s theme was ‘ A Call to Conscience: Defending Freedom and
Human Rights”.  “The world Parliament of religions is a wonderful event because it gives a chance for people of all different religious persuasions, spirituality’s, different countries, different traditions to come together and learn from each other”, Anuttama Dasa, the global director of communications for ISKON said, urging everyone to take responsibility to bring about the change.

The sessions featured panel discussion, films, performances, workshops, art exhibits, plenaries and community service on topics about protecting human rights, climate change, women’s rights and other social issues with the Sikh community offering a special langar feast to all attendees.
