Vivek Chilukuri appointed director of CNAS Technology and National Security Program

Indian American Vivek Chilukuri has been appointed as the Center for a New American Security's (CNAS) senior fellow and director of the Technology and National Security Program which explores the policy challenges associated with emerging technologies.

 Welcoming Chilukuri, the chief executive officer of CNAS, Richard Fontaine said, "His impressive background as a trusted policy expert, both on Capitol Hill and in the State Department, "will help advance the CNAS mission of developing bipartisan policies to sustain US technology leadership."

Chilukuri has served as a senior staff member for Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. His staff positions included senior policy advisor for technology and democracy, deputy chief of staff, legislative director, and chief speechwriter.

He also played an integral role in crafting legislation to strengthen America’s technology competitiveness, promote responsible governance for digital platforms and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, and expand access to high-speed broadband through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Furthermore, Chilukuri has been a political advisor to the under-secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights in the Department of State. He also worked as a program officer on the Middle East and North Africa team at the National Democratic Institute. He received an MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School and a BA in international studies from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he graduated as a Robertson Scholar.

The CNAS program seeks to provide cutting-edge research on topics such as artificial intelligence, technology strategy, biotechnology, and defence technology. Its key focus is bringing together the technology and policy communities to better understand these challenges and together develop solutions.
