Virat Kohli is India’s highest-earning Instagram sport star
The Indian cricket team's former skipper charged approximately US $1,384,000 (approximately INR 11.5 crores) for every sponsored post he shared on his Instagram feed.
Hopper HQ, an Instagram content scheduling platform, has drawn its 2023 list of top earners on the platform spanning celebrities, influencers, and sports stars. Indian cricket team’s former skipper Virat Kohli is the only Indian sports star to feature on the list. Kohli is placed before Los Angeles Lakers star player LeBron James and Paris St. Germain team soccer star Neymar.
Kohli is number three on the list, below only Ballon d’Or winning soccer stars Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Hopper HQ said Kohli charged approximately US $1,384,000 (approximately INR 11.5 crores) for every sponsored post he shared on his Instagram feed. On the platform, Kohli has promoted brands like Essilor, HSBC, Vivo, Herbalife, Ocean Beverages, and MRF Corporate among others.
Kohli placed on the 14th position out of 100 personalities on Instagram across niches, in terms of revenue generated from the app through promotional posts. Priyanka Chopra is the only other Indian celebrity to feature on the list.
Mike Bandar, the co-founder of Hopper HQ was intrigued by the rise in Instagram earnings of global stars every year. He said it was shocking that the top earners have remained consistent over the years, adding that celebrities from the sports and entertainment world have still got what it takes to keep the audiences engaged.
Hopper’s list revealed Ronaldo charged US $3,234,000 per post, Messi charged US $2,597,000 per post, Selena Gomez who is number three on the top 100 earner list earns US $2,558,000 for every post, while next is Kylie Jenner with US $2,264,000, and Dwayne Johnson on number 5 with $2,326,000 per post.
