VCU Health appoints Alok Chaudhary as AI officer

In a move to enhance patient care and team member experience through technological advancements,  VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) Health System has appointed Alok Chaudhary as the vice president and chief data and AI officer, effective July.21.

In the new role, Chaudhary will chair the Data Steering Committee, working with key health system leaders to develop a data platform that prioritizes patient and team member needs. He will also lead the creation of high-performance teams to ensure alignment with VCU Health’s mission and values, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and customer service.

Chaudhary brings over 20 years of experience in healthcare data, analytics, and IT, including 18 years in leadership roles. His most recent position was chief data and analytics officer at Ballad Health in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he established an analytics center of excellence and developed an enterprise data management strategy for the 21-hospital system. 

Previously, he held a similar role at University of Louisville Health from October 2017 to January 2022. In addition to his professional experience, Chaudhary is actively involved in professional associations, serving on the Chief Data Officer (CDO) Magazine global editorial board and the Modal Learning advisory board. 

He holds an MBA from Oregon State University and a Certificate in Information Systems Management from the UC Santa Cruz Extension program in Silicon Valley.
