The United States-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) conducted its first session as part of the Hydrogen Task Force, a high level bilateral collaboration between the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
The virtual discussion, titled "The Role Of Hydrogen in Energy Transition,” included speakers from the American and Indian governments, as well as energy experts from the private sector.
The session explored the evolving vision and outlook for hydrogen, examining the reasons and methods by which it is positioned to become the future fuel. Discussions covered a range of hydrogen applications, from its incorporation into the energy mix to its potential in the transportation and construction sectors, a release stated.
The discussions highlighted the critical issue of mineral scarcity for electrolyzer manufacturing, bringing attention to the "China plus one" strategy. It also focused on how India could emulate the success of its solar energy initiatives by implementing appropriate policy measures to facilitate the adoption of hydrogen.
Sunita Satyapal, director of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and Sujit Pillai, senior director at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), represented the two sides at the event.
The conversation was moderated by Nolty Theriot from USISPF and included valuable insights from industry experts, such as Atul Arya from S&P Global and Vikram Kapur from ReNew.
