With Donald Trump’s return to the White House alongside running mate JD Vance, the latter’s wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, has made history as the first Indian-American Second Lady of the United States.
Born and raised in San Diego, California, to Indian immigrants who arrived in the U.S. in 1986, Usha excelled academically, eventually earning a law degree from Yale, where she met J.D. The couple married in 2014 and have three children.
Usha’s family hails from Vadluru, a village in Andhra Pradesh, India, where her relatives and villagers celebrated the 2024 election victory with prayers and festivities. Her family has reportedly contributed to the welfare of their ancestral village by supporting local temples and community projects, strengthening the connection between her heritage and her new role.
THANK YOU!

To my beautiful wife for making it possible to do this.
To President Donald J. Trump, for giving me such an opportunity to serve our country at this level.
And to the American people, for their trust. I will never stop fighting for ALL of you.
At a recent rally, Donald Trump acknowledged J.D. and Usha’s significant achievement, highlighting Usha’s historic role as the nation’s first non-white Second Lady. Her presence in the White House is seen as a symbol of the growing influence of the Indian-American community, which has expanded to 4.8 million people according to recent census data.
