US Navy ship arrives in India for HADR exercise

The United States Navy’s amphibious warship and transport dock, the USS Somerset (LPD-25), arrived in Visakhapatnam to partake in the upcoming bilateral Tri-Services Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise, Tiger Triumph – 24 on Mar. 18.
Tiger Triumph – 24 is a collaboration between the Indian and US militaries, where the exercise aims to enhance interoperability for disaster relief. It will include HADR operations and streamline Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure smooth coordination during crises.

The Defense Public public relations officer of Vishakapatnam, Ministry of Defence, said, “India & the US gear up for bilateral Tri-Services HADR Exercise, Tiger Triumph-24 from Mar. 18 to Mar. 30 2024. Indian Navy, Army & Air Force units, including medical teams join forces with US counterparts for the exercise on the Eastern Seaboard.”
Commencing from Mar. 18 to Mar. 25, the Harbour Phase of the exercise will witness personnel from both nations engaging in a spectrum of activities. They include training visits, subject matter expert exchanges, sports events and more. This phase serves as a foundation for the subsequent Sea Phase.
Following the Harbour Phase, the participating ships will embark on the Sea Phase. In this phase, the ships and the troops will execute a series of Maritime, Amphibious, and HADR operations in alignment with simulated scenarios. This phase utilises the practical application of the skills gained during the Harbour Phase.
