The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India launched "Gamechangers Ultimate Frisbee" on Aug. 22, a sports initiative designed to promote gender equity and leadership development through the mixed-gender sport of ultimate frisbee.

The program began in Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Chennai from Aug. 19 to 24, and will be followed by Mumbai from Aug. 26 to 31. Over the course of a year, the initiative will train 100 female coaches from both urban and rural communities in these regions. The goal is to increase the representation of women in leadership roles by providing young women with essential leadership skills.

The program began with coach development workshops and gender-equitable coaching sessions at educational institutions and sports complexes. After these in-person camps, the coaches will receive ongoing support through virtual leaders-in-training sessions throughout the year.

The US Consulate said that this blend of in-person and virtual training will empower the coaches to lead ultimate frisbee sessions in their communities. It will foster leadership and boost confidence among girls by promoting inclusion through this mixed-gender sport.

The program targets a 40 percent increase in the number of participating coaches serving in leadership roles, with 30 percent of program alumni expected to actively engage in gender equality initiatives. Additionally, the initiative features male-allyship workshops, designed to create supportive environments for gender equality in sports and cultivate a culture of inclusion both on and off the court.
