US educational delegation to tour South India

The delegation will seek to promote US an an attractive study abroad destination as well as enhance educational ties with Indian institutes

In an effort to promote the United States as a premier destination for International students, the International Trade Administration (ITA) will lead a delegation of 18 higher educational institutions to South India from Feb 12-20.

The delegation will visit the South Indian cities of Bengaluru, Manipal, Mangaluru, Kochi, and Coimbatore as part of the ITA’s Global Diversity Export Initiative trade mission of 2024.

The participating universities represent 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, the include–Arizona State University; The George Washington University; Pennsylvania College of Technology; Williamsport, Pennsylvania; University of Texas at San Antonio; San Antonio, Texas; University of San Diego; San Diego, California among others.

Commenting on the mission’s significance, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago, said, “ITA is leading this trade mission at a critical time to further promote the United States as a premier destination for international students, and to strengthen our cultural and educational ties with India.” 

According to the Institute of International Education Open Doors Report, Indian students comprise 25 percent the international student population in the United States and also accounts for the highest overall number of international graduate students in the country.
