US-based Indian organizations have welcomed Vinay Mohan Kwatra as India’s new Ambassador to the United States, following his official appointment to the post on July 19.

Kwatra, who retired as Foreign Secretary just last week, will be filling a position that has been vacant for more than six months following the retirement of Indian diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

Indiaspora, a California-based Indian American nonprofit, congratulated the Former Foreign Secretary and expressed eagerness to work with him in a post on X. “Ambassador Kwatra will undoubtedly play a key role in helping to strengthen and grow the US-India relationship. Indiaspora is looking forward to working with Ambassador Kwatra.”

The US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) welcomed the diplomat while noting his contributions to bilateral ties as Foreign Secretary.

“As India's Foreign Secretary, he oversaw the historic State Visit of Prime Minister Modi to Washington and strengthened ties through iCET and INDUS-X, as New Delhi hosted a historic G20 Summit in 2023. USISPF looks forward to working with Ambassador Kwatra to continue to strengthen US-India strategic partnership,” it said.

USISPF president Mukesh Aghi also congratulated Kwatra on his appointment. “As Foreign Secretary, he skillfully navigated India's foreign policy through significant geopolitical challenges. Looking forward to working together to elevate the US-India partnership to new heights,” he said in a social media post.

The US-India Business Council (USIBC) welcomed Kwatra and noted that his extensive diplomatic experience  “will significantly contribute to strengthening U.S.-India relations.”

“USIBC looks forward to working closely with Ambassador Kwatra to advance our bilateral trade and economic ties, ensuring continued growth and collaboration between our two nations,” it added.

USIBC President Atul Keshap wished Kwatra a “successful tenure” in a social media post.
