The United States has announced a second lottery selection process for H-1B visa applications. This decision was made so that they can meet the regular 65,000 cap allocation for fiscal year 2025.

This step provides another opportunity for applicants who were not selected in the initial lottery held in March 2024. However, the USCIS clarified that there will be no second registration and selection will be made from among already submitted registrations for the FY 2025 cap season.

Additionally the USCIS said that they “will not be conducting a second selection for the advanced degree exemption (the master’s cap), as enough master’s cap registrations were already selected and sufficient petitions were received based on those registrations as projected to meet the FY 2025 masters cap numerical allocation.”

Prospective petitioners who are selected in this round will be notified of their eligibility to file an H-1B cap-subject petition for the beneficiary named in their registration. The USCIS will soon announce the completion of this second selection process and notify selected petitioners accordingly.

Those selected will receive an update in their USCIS online accounts, including a selection notice that outlines the filing process.
