As the world's two oldest and largest democracies, the United States and India share a unique bond of friendship, said White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby in his daily press conference held on June.17.
Kirby was addressing the media as US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan visits New Delhi from June.17 to June.18. During his India trip so far, Sullivan has met his counterpart Ajit Doval as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This visit marks the first senior-level engagement from the Joe Biden administration since Modi's recent electoral victory.
Kirby emphasized the significance of the visit in strengthening bilateral relations. "Mr. Sullivan's trip will further deepen the US-India partnership to create a safer and more prosperous Indo-Pacific.”
In New Delhi, Sullivan co-chaired the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET). This landmark partnership aims to expand strategic cooperation across key technology sectors, including space, semiconductors, advanced telecommunications, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, biotechnology, and clean energy. The iCET initiative represents a significant step in enhancing technological collaboration between the two nations, aiming to bolster both security and economic prosperity in the region.
Kirby closed his remarks by saying, "I don't have more to add on the conversations that Jake's having. He's still over there having these conversations. But the main focus of his visit, as I said, was to look for ways to deepen the US-India bilateral relationship, particularly when it comes to emerging technology.”
