"Trump is in trouble and he knows it," Biden says at election fundraiser hosted by Indian-Americans

Fundraising from the Indian-American community is expected to play a key role in the Democratic leader’s election campaign.

Joe Biden thinks that his opponent in the 2024 presidential race Donald Trump “is in trouble and he knows it”. Biden made these remarks at a fundraiser hosted for his re-election campaign by prominent Indian-Americans in Silicon Valley on May.10. The event was held at the home of billionaire venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, and his wife Neeru Khosla, in Portola Valley, California.

“After bragging about he’s [Trump] the reason why Roe v. Wade was overturned, he’s now worried voters are going to remember that and hold him accountable for the cruelty and chaos that has been created,” Biden said in his 16-minute-long speech. “Well, I’ve got news for Donald Trump: Voters are going to hold him accountable.”

Biden delivered a number of jokes about Trump. Referring to Trump’s recent remarks on abortion, Biden said: "Take a look at the front cover of this week’s TIME Magazine — the long interview with Trump. He said states should monitor women’s pregnancies, prosecute those who violate abortion bans. Monitor women’s pregnancies? But, look, the chaos is nothing new for Trump. His presidency was chaos. Trump is trying to make the country forget how dark things — and unsettling they were as he left the office. But we’re not going to forget."

Biden also talked about how more people in the US now had health insurance than ever before, adding that he had been opposing Big Pharma (major multinational pharmaceutical companies collectively) for a long time to enforce this change.

"More people have health insurance today than ever before in the entire history of the country. And, look, I’ve been fighting Big Pharma for a long, long time as a senator. If you have a prescription from a drug company here in America, I can buy that drug — that — I can have that filled for 40 to 60 percent less in Toronto, in London, in Paris, in Berlin — around the world," Biden said at the fundraiser.

Biden also talked about decisions his government took to improve gun safety.

The event saw a large crowd gathered at the house of Khosla, who is a co-founder of Sun Microsystems. He is known for his investments in technology startups and his advocacy for clean technology and renewable energy. Khosla Ventures, his venture capital firm, has funded numerous successful companies in various sectors.

Khosla has also been involved in political advocacy, particularly in issues related to technology, energy, and the environment.

“I came to see your dogs,” Biden said at the start of the event. “As the press can tell you I like dogs better than people sometimes.”

Ticket prices at the event that drew many wealthy tech executives ranged from $6,600 to $100,000. Fund-raising from the Indian-American community is expected to play a key role in President Biden's election campaign.
