In a devastating car crash in Texas, three members of an Indian-origin family lost their lives, leaving their 14-year-old son as the only surviving member. The incident occurred near Lampasas County on Wednesday, according to media reports.
The victims, identified as Arvind Mani, 45, his wife Pradeepa Arvind, 40, and their 17-year-old daughter Andril Arvind were residents of Leander in Williamson County, central Texas. The couple was driving their daughter to the University of Dallas, where she was set to begin her studies in computer science after graduating from high school.
Tragically, their 14-year-old son, Adiryan, was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. It made him the only surviving member of the family.
The reports said the crash occurred when a 2004 Cadillac traveling southbound experienced a rear tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control and veer into oncoming traffic. The car then collided head-on with the Mani family's Kia Telluride. It resulted in a fiery crash that claimed the lives of five people, including the driver of the Cadillac.
“There was no chance of survival. It is one of the worst crashes I have seen in 26 years because of the magnitude of the damage and the amount of people lost,” a police officer told local media.
Authorities suspect that the Cadillac was traveling at approximately 160 kmph at the time of the collision, based on witness statements. With the family's car traveling at around 112 kmph, police likened the impact to "driving into a concrete wall at 270 kmph."
