Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin arrives in Chicago to solicit investments

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who arrived in Chicago for the second leg of his investment trip to the United States  on Sep. 3 was greeted with a warm and enthusiastic reception by members of various Tamil diaspora.

Various associations and sangams in the United States including the Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FETNA), The Tamil Nadu Trust, Chicago Tamil Sangam, Greater Milwaukee Tamil Sangam, Tamil Association of Peoria, Aaram Group, Bloomington Tamil Sangam, Annai Tamil School, and Madison Tamil Sangam  thronged the airport to greet the CM and his delegation, which included his wife Durga Stalin and State Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa, with  a giant flex board reading, "Chicago Welcomes Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister," 

The Indian Consul General in Chicago, Somnath Ghosh, also participated in the festivities. Overwhelmed by the support, Stalin shared his gratitude in a message on X (formerly Twitter), expressing how deeply moved he was by the affection shown to him. 



MoUs Signed in Chicago

On his first day in Chicago, Stalin secured a major agreement with Eaton, a multinational power management company, on Sep .4 to expand their R&D and engineering center in Chennai, which will bring in US $24 million (₹200 crore) and create 500 new jobs. Additionally, the CM also signed an agreement with Assurant Inc., an insurance giant, to facilitate the establishment of 's first Global Capability Centre in India, set to launch in Chennai. 

Prior to his arrival in Chicago, the Chief Minister oversaw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in San Francisco. These agreements are expected to generate 4,600 jobs in Tamil Nadu, with an investment influx of US $156 million (₹1,300 crore).

In Chicago, Stalin is also scheduled to meet potential investors urging them to establish industries and businesses in Tamil Nadu to create more job opportunities and drive the state towards its goal of becoming a US $1 trillion economy by 2030. He plans to highlight Tamil Nadu’s favorable industrial climate and the availability of a skilled, industry-ready workforce to attract investments.

He will also interact with the diaspora at the Rosemont Theatre in Chicago on Sept. 7.
