Member of the Parliament for Fareham, Suella Braverman, penned a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, following her ouster from government. Citing a failure to uphold key policy commitments and a lack of decisive leadership, Braverman talked about the broken promises and policy failures in the government's agenda.

Braverman was reportedly sacked after making controversial remarks in an article published in The Times on November 8. Holding true to her “more to say” comment following the reshuffling, Braverman started off by expressing gratitude for her time in office. However, the letter took a turn as she highlighted the disappointment in Sunak's inability to fulfill commitments outlined in their agreement.

Braverman wrote, “As you are aware, I accepted the position of Home Secretary in October 2022 based on certain conditions. Despite the lack of a personal mandate from a majority of Party members during the summer leadership contest, I supported you due to the assurances you gave me on key policy priorities, including reducing legal migration...Your rejection of this path was not merely a betrayal of our agreement but a betrayal of your promise to the nation that you would do 'whatever it takes' to stop the boats."

The former Home Secretary accused the Prime Minister of repeatedly failing to deliver on every key policy, undermining the promises made in the 2019 manifesto and the 2016 Brexit Referendum. Sunak's "wishful thinking" approach had been futile according to her.

She raised concerns about the lack of preparation for a potential Supreme Court loss, emphasizing the absence of a credible Plan B. Moreover, she accused the Prime Minister of ignoring her suggestions for such a plan and expressed her frustration at the government's compromised position.

"In doing so, you have increased the very real risk these marches present to everyone else," Braverman warned, referencing the rising threats of antisemitism and extremism on the streets.

The letter also called out Sunak's response to the threat of radicalization and extremism, accusing him of a weak and uncertain approach that lacks the necessary qualities of leadership.

"Someone needs to be honest: your plan is not working, we have endured record election defeats, your resets have failed, and we are running out of time. You need to change course urgently," Braverman urged in her closing remarks.

James Cleverly replaced Braverman, and former Prime Minister David Cameron filled in the empty Foreign Secretary post.
