“Stay connected with India,” Amb. Sandhu tells diaspora at farewell
He outlined the contributions of Indian Americans across various fields

Outgoing Indian Ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu during farewell events arranged for him during the weekend urged the Indian American community to ensure that the second generation stays connected to India.
Maintaining that the closeness with India will be beneficial in the coming few years when international companies and companies move to India, the Ambassador said that those aware of India will be uniquely placed to receive job and business opportunities.
“So therefore, not only for emotional, cultural, and so many other reasons but also for economic and commercial reasons, pay attention, stay connected with India,” Amb. Sandhu said addressing a farewell reception in McLean, Virginia organized by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations.
The Ambassador outlined the contributions of Indian Americans across various fields, especially healthcare and business. He cited examples of the pandemic when everyday an Indian origin physician would appear on a news show to brief the nation or the growing list of Indian American executives in top Fortune 500 companies.
“That is the kind of success which Indian-American professionals have achieved. So whether it is healthcare, or other STEM areas, today an Indian American is seen as part of the success of the United States. That’s why we feed so proud of you,” he asserted.
Recalling the historic visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States in 2023 and the growing recognition of India as a trusted strategic partner to the United States, Amb. Sandhu said it was due to the contributions of the diaspora.
“That recognition to India has come thanks to all the success which all of you have achieved or your parents have achieved,” he said to rousing applause from the community.
In another event organized by the Indian American Business Impact Group, the ambassador focused on the unprecedented growth of the bilateral relations between the two countries across various sectors such as defense, tech, and education.
“But fact this we have only covered tip of the iceberg in all these sectors. This relationship is going to go far and wide,” the seasoned diplomat, who will be retiring from service at the end of this month said.
