In a strategic move to bolster its leadership and innovation in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), Data Cloud company Snowflake has appointed Sridhar Ramaswamy as its new chief executive officer.

The announcement comes as outgoing CEO Frank Slootman steps down to retire. Slootman will assume the role of chairman of the board, as per an official statement by the company.

Ramaswamy, who previously served as senior vice president of AI at the Bozeman, Montana-based company, expressed his excitement about leading the company into a new phase of growth, emphasizing the potential of AI to deliver significant business value.

“We have an enormous opportunity ahead to help all customers leverage AI to deliver massive business value. My focus will be on accelerating our ability to bring innovation to our customers and partners,” he stated.

Prior to joining Snowflake, Ramaswamy co-founded Neeva, the world’s first private AI-powered search engine, and led Google’s advertising products for 15 years, playing a pivotal role in the growth of AdWords and Google’s advertising business.

His tenure at Google saw him oversee various aspects of advertising, including search, display, and video advertising, analytics, shopping, payments, and travel, the statement added. Ramaswamy’s contributions were instrumental in scaling Google’s advertising revenue from US$ 1.5 billion to over US$ 100 billion.

Since joining Snowflake in 2023 following the company’s acquisition of Neeva, he has played a key role in shaping Snowflake’s AI strategy. Ramaswamy spearheaded the launch of Snowflake Cortex, a fully managed service aimed at simplifying AI deployment and driving business value for users.

The company added Ramaswamy’s appointment signals its commitment to advancing AI innovation and providing cutting-edge solutions to its customers.

“With his visionary leadership and track record of success, Ramaswamy is poised to steer Snowflake towards continued growth and success in the evolving landscape of AI and cloud computing,” the statement further noted.

Ramaswamy completed his graduation from IIT Madras in computer science and received a master’s degree and PhD from Brown University.
