Skyline Princess Cruise lit up to celebrate the 37th annual Deepavali festival

The Association of Indians in America (AIA), New York Chapter, celebrated Deepavali on the East River, honoring community leaders. The evening featured a stunning fireworks display set to Indian music near Liberty State Park, enchanting both cruise passengers and onlookers.

The Association of Indians in America (AIA), New York Chapter, celebrated Deepavali on the East River, honoring community leaders. The evening featured a stunning fireworks display set to Indian music near Liberty State Park, enchanting both cruise passengers and onlookers.

The Association of Indians in America (AIA), New York Chapter, celebrated its 37th annual Deepavali festival aboard the Skyline Princess on the East River on Oct. 6, with over 400 guests in traditional attire. Departing from World Fair Marina in Flushing, NY, attendees enjoyed picturesque views of Manhattan's skyline, iconic bridges, and the Statue of Liberty during a festive fall cruise.

AIA-NY president Jagdish Gupta highlighted significant milestones, including NYC’s recognition of Diwali as a holiday in 2005, the release of the Diwali ‘Forever Stamp’ in 2013, and the recent addition of Diwali to NYC school calendars, thanking Mayor Eric Adams and Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar.

The evening featured a spectacular fireworks display set to Indian music near Liberty State Park, captivating both cruise passengers and onlookers. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with Indian hors d’oeuvres, followed by a festive dinner with live Bollywood music from the Sunny Gill Music Group and Garba dances performed by the Jain Senior Group.

Gala Chair Beena Kothari welcomed attendees, and Gupta introduced AIA-NY leadership and honored guests. The organization recognized Louis Kavoussi and Manish A. Vira from Northwell Health for their contributions to the community. The event was sponsored by Fareportal, New York Life, and Northwell Health.
