Shyam Batra enters London’s 2024 Mayoral race
Batra will face off British Indian candidate Tarun Ghulati and nine other candidates

Indian-origin property entrepreneur Shyam Batra has entered the London mayoral race. Elections are scheduled to take place on May 2, 2024.
The 62-year-old has expressed his commitment to devoting his energy and passion to the cause of helping those feeling victimized by a defunct police system.
He underlined that the road to restoring the city of London to its rightful place will be “challenging with days and nights filled with overwhelming obstacles,” affirming that he is geared up to overcome them.
The independent candidate said that the goal of creating a safe and thriving London where future generations can flourish as entrepreneurs, educators, and successful individuals is possible with the vital support of the city residents.
“Together, we can elevate our city to the forefront of the world and shine as a beacon of hope for others to follow,” Batra told BBC, adding that he did not view himself as a political candidate but as someone who “just wants to fix London and give people a voice.”
One of the things Batra prioritizes is the transport system. He said he intends to replace the old buses and trains so that the people of London could reach their destinations on time.
Batra also showed passion about eliminating the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) charge i.e. US $15.91. It is a daily charge to drive within the Ulez zones that operate across all London boroughs. Other priorities include tackling the cost-of-living crisis and improving housing issues.
Born in the UK, Batra is one of the 11 candidates running for London mayor in 2024. His opponent includes British-Indian Tarun Ghulati, who is contesting as an independent.
Born to an Indian government official, Batra began his career at an investment house in London where he found success and recognition. He eventually transitioned to the property industry in 2006 with his first apartment hotel purchase.
