Sewa International USA holds 18th national conference in Illinois

Sewa International USA, a Hindu faith-based non-profit organization, convened its 18th National Conference at IndiaHub in Schaumburg, IL, on May.4 and May.5. The event united over 140 volunteers, comprising Sewa's directors, advisory board members, executive team leaders, chapter presidents, coordinators, and other key figures.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Consul General of India in Chicago, Somnath Ghosh, graced the event with their presence. Krishnamoorthi underscored the remarkable contributions of the Indian-American community across diverse fields, including Congress.
Citing recent census data, Krishnamoorthi emphasized the community's status as the fastest-growing, best-educated, and most prosperous segment in the United States. Krishnamoorthi also pledged his support for Sewa International, affirming his commitment to participating in all its initiatives.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi at the event. / Courtesy photoGauranga Das Prabhu, director of Govardhan Eco Village in Maharashtra and renowned spiritual and motivational speaker, engaged in a "fireside chat" alongside Jay Shetty, an author, life coach, and advisor to global celebrities, during the event.
In his reflections on his spiritual journey, Gauranga Das commended Sewa for its active engagement in giving back to society. Citing the teachings of the Gita, he highlighted that charity is a duty without expectations. Emphasizing the importance of performing duties according to time, place, and circumstance, he drew a comparison between Lord Krishna's description of sewa (selfless service) and the work of Sewa volunteers. He concluded that success lies in living for others.
Meanwhile, Jay Shetty remarked that absorption in any spiritual practice leads to intensity in action and sensitivity in dealings. He praised Sewa for embodying this principle, highlighting the organization's intensity in action and commitment, as well as its sensitivity in helping and reaching out to those in need. Shetty commended Sewa for prioritizing selfless service as the focus of human life, particularly in a world often distracted by various other pursuits.

Sewa also honored Shrinarayan Chandak, a member of Sewa’s Advisory Board and leader of various dharmic causes. Chandak and his wife Asha have lived in the US for the past 55 years, contributing significantly to the Indian-American community.
