Amid an uproar over the death of Indian student, Jaahnavi Kandula, the Seattle Police Officers Guild has released an official statement apologising for their officer's “horrible” and “insensitive” comment surrounding her death.

Emphasizing that the viral bodycam footage was taken "out of context", SPOG said  it fails to explain the full context.

"The video captures only one side of the conversation. There is much more detail and nuance that has not been made public yet…," SPOG said in an official statement. They expressed "deep sorrow and grief"  for the victim's family and apologized for "revictimizing" Kandula.

Further, the SPOG highlighted that officer Dan Auderer had taken ownership of his actions more than four weeks before the release of the video. He had authored a statement requesting that the Director of OPA Gino Betts consider the course of “Rapid Adjudication”.

Rapid Adjudication is a disciplinary process that was agreed to by the City of Seattle and the SPOG to expedite police employee misconduct investigations so accountability can be swiftly addressed, and reasonable discipline imposed.

Kandula, a 23 year old student, was killed in January after being hit by a patrol car in Seattle.
