The 2024 Rishi Raj Medal for Innovation and Commercialization in Ceramics will be presented to Sanjay Sampath, an Indian-American professor from Stony Brook University's Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering.
Presented by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), the medal honors exceptional discoveries or inventions within the ceramics and glass research community that have led to or have the potential to lead to innovative products or processes. Sampath will be recognized for his contributions at the ACerS 126th Annual Meeting on Oct.7 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he will also present his research.
Sampath, is the director of the Center for Thermal Spray Research, an interdisciplinary partnership in the field of thermal spray materials. The center hosts the Industrial Consortium for Thermal Spray Technology, which includes 30 leading companies dedicated to bridging fundamental research and practical applications.

His dedication and achievements continue to inspire our department and the broader scientific community. Congratulations, Professor Sampath, on this well-deserved recognition,” Gersappe added.
Sampath earned his B. Tech in Metallurgy from the Indian Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University and his PhD in Materials Science from Stony Brook University. Throughout his career, he has published 250 journal articles, held 15 patents, and has received several best paper awards.
