Saheli, a Boston-based organization created by South Asian immigrant women to help domestic violence survivors will host an event to thank and honor its supporters.
The event, called ‘Sur Saheli’, will be held on December 2 at the Lexington Christian Academy. It will feature a performance by Taal Mel, an fusion band that combines Indian and American music.
“Be ready to be charmed by Taal Mel, a musical band that brings together rhythms( Taal) and harmonies ( Mel) from the two rich musical cultures that we are lucky enough to be part of - India, where we grew up, and the US where we found our second homes. They love experimenting with Indian and Western classical and pop styles, ranging from Carnatic and Indian film music to blues and rock,” Saheli said in a statement on its website.
Also performing at the event is Pallavi Nagesha, a Bharatnatyam dancer and instructor in the Greater Boston area. Through her performance, Nagesh will explore the theme of “Nayika”, a heroine blessed with beauty beyond measure and strong character, who is experiencing a myriad of emotions.
“In alignment with Saheli's mission, this performance empowers and celebrates women. The Nayika's character reflects the strength, resilience, and emotional depth that women embody in their lives,” Saheli’s statement said of the performance.
General admission tickets are priced at US $35, and VIP tickets are priced at US $75. Tickets are priced at US $50 for friends and supporters.
