Indian spiritual leader Sadhguru was honored with the 2024 Global Indian Award by the Canada India Foundation (CIF), a Canadian non-profit organisation promoting bilateral relations.

Sadhguru was recognised for his "unparalleled contributions towards creating a conscious planet" and his leadership in addressing environmental challenges. The award ceremony, held on Oct. 20, celebrated individuals of Indian origin who have made a significant global impact.

Ritesh Malik, chair of the Canada India Foundation, praised Sadhguru’s approach to global challenges. "In Sadhguru, we have a perfect union of understanding the current challenges and finding solutions to the most pressing issues, guided by the wisdom traditions of the ancient Indian spiritual and knowledge systems as well as straight-forward common sense, which unfortunately is not so common anymore," Malik said.

Malik highlighted the practical solutions Sadhguru offers, which span both personal well-being and global concerns such as soil degradation and climate change. He further noted how Sadhguru’s emphasis on holistic practices like yoga and meditation aligns with Canada’s public health priorities, particularly in combating mental illness.

On receiving the award, Sadhguru expressed gratitude to the Canada India Foundation and announced that the US$ 36,500 (CAD 50,000) prize would be dedicated to Cauvery Calling, an environmental initiative by Isha Foundation aimed at revitalizing the River Cauvery in southern India.

Sadhguru's message of sustainability, inclusivity, and personal development resonated with the foundation’s theme of "Creating a Conscious Planet." Malik remarked, “Canada can benefit greatly from thought leaders like Sadhguru, whose teachings align with Canada’s own focus on individual well-being, sustainability, and inclusivity.”
