Founder and managing trustee of the Mukul Madhav Foundation (MMF), Ritu Hinduja Chhabria, has been awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor by the Ellis Island Honors Society.

This year, Chhabria was among two international recipients honored for her extensive philanthropic work through MMF, which has positively transformed many lives.

Chhabria’s commitment to philanthropy began in 1999 with the establishment of MMF, which focuses on a variety of social, cultural, and charitable causes. The foundation addresses the needs of diverse groups, including infants, the elderly, teenage girls, widows, tribal women, transgender individuals, farmers, and factory workers.

Under her leadership, MMF has implemented initiatives in healthcare, education, skills training, and support across 24 Indian states. In 2018, Chhabria extended MMF's reach to the UK. Since then, MMF UK has supported over 30 organizations working on issues such as homelessness, food insecurity, children's development, education, and healthcare.

Key initiatives include partnerships with Akshaya Patra and The Felix Project to provide nutritious meals to underprivileged children, mental health counseling for trafficked women, educational scholarships at King's College London, Imperial College, and Warwick University, and support for British Paralympians. MMF UK also promotes India-UK relations through cross-border medical knowledge exchange programs.

"Our mission through the Foundation is to listen to needs at every level. Listening helps us to plan and execute efficiently. The team at MMF work tirelessly with strong ethics to ensure dignity and opportunities. Collaboration and communication with like-minded individuals is the success to our vision. I would like to thank Nasser Kazeminy and the Board of Ellis for this honor and for a beautiful event," Chhabria stated.

The medal, awarded annually since 1986, honor individuals whose achievements and service exemplify the values of America, such as patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood, and diversity. Recognized by both Houses of Congress as one of the nation’s highest awards, the honorees are listed annually in the Congressional Record.
