Richard R. Verma rejoins Mastercard

In his professional capacity in the company, Verma shall oversee legal, policy, security, and operations.

Digital-payments company, Mastercard, has announced the appointment of former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma as the company’s chief administrative officer. 

In his role, Verma will oversee the company's law, government affairs and policy, franchise, corporate security, inclusion and belonging and transformation, risk and operations (TRO) functions.  

Verma, who previously served as Mastercard’s chief legal officer and head of global public policy from 2020 to 2023, will also join Mastercard’s Executive Leadership Team and Management Committee.

Before rejoining Mastercard, Verma served as the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, overseeing modernization, workforce, and strategic initiatives. He has also held roles as U.S. Ambassador to India, Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs, and National Security Advisor to the Senate Majority Leader. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Verma has received numerous military and civilian awards.

Alongside Verma’s appointment, the company also announced Tim Murphy’s appointment as vice chair. Both appointments are effective May 1, 2025 with Verma and Murphy reporting to CEO Miebach.
