Response to Sonu Sood being declared Grand Marshal of India Day Parade

In this letter, Hemant Patel has voiced his objection to Sonu Sood being declared the Grand Marshal of India Day Parade in New Jersey.

Dear editor,

What a shame! Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has been honored as the Grand Marshal of the India Day Parade in New Jersey, USA.

Bollywood, in general, has repeatedly showcased anti-India and anti-Hindu narratives in numerous movies. The Independence Day parade should be a tribute to the thousands of freedom fighters who laid down their lives for our country.  Inviting a Bollywood actor is an insult to the freedom fighters and sends the wrong message to our youth. It diminishes the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. Instead, organizers should invite retired military majors or strong nationalists who can inspire our youth.

In addition, Sonu Sood has made controversial statements against the UP government's decision to display business owners' names on their shops.  There are hundreds of videos showing instances of spitting, urinating, or defecating on food. Considering the #ThookJihad concerns raised about a specific community, displaying owners' names is a welcoming step to safeguard people from unhygienic food, especially for Kavad Yatris.

Sonu Sood said, "Instead of names, owners should display 'humanity'." Well, why should owners hide their names and portray themselves as Hindus? This raises major concerns. It's a sign of guilt.  He also said, "Sabari fed fruit with thook to Ram, so what's the big deal about eating food with someone's thook?" This is an insult to over 1 billion Hindus. Sabri ma's intention was pious and full of love! He should apologize for hurting Hindu sentiments.

Parade organizers should cancel Sonu Sood's role as Grand Marshal. If they do not, they will also be hurting Hindu sentiments. If the organizers refuse to cancel Sonu Sood, we appeal to all sponsors and supporters to withdraw their support.

Thank You,
Bharat Mata ki Jai
