Rep.Thanedar appointed Ranking Member of two house subcommittees in freshman term

The Indian American Congressman has significantly contributed to small businesses through various legislations.

Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar was recently appointed as the Ranking Member of the Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Regulations, making him the only freshman to hold the Ranking Member position in two subcommittees. 

The Congressman from Michigan was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 2022 elections. He was previously appointed as the Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security. 

In a statement, Thanedar said he is dedicated to enhancing the lives of hardworking families throughout Metro Detroit through these leadership roles. 

“I am grateful to Ranking Member Velázquez for trusting me with this important leadership position” said Congressman Thanedar. “Her decision to make me the only Freshman this Congress to be a Ranking Member on two subcommittees is a testament to the hard work I am doing on behalf of my constituents across Metro Detroit,” he added in a statement.

The entrepreneur-turned-politician, expressed that having experienced the challenges of running a small business himself, he recognizes the urgent need to simplify bureaucratic jargon and provide clear, concise, and accessible information and regulations to the nation’s small business owners.

In his new role, he looks forward to continuing his focus on real-world issues affecting small businesses, including capital access, a strong workforce, and creating easy-to-understand regulations.

The Indian American Congressman has significantly contributed to small businesses through various legislations. He introduced the One Stop Shop for Small Business Licensing Act, aimed at streamlining the licensing process and reducing the costs of obtaining licenses and permits, thereby lowering the barriers to establishing a small business.

He also introduced the Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act, which would support apprenticeship programs through small business development centers. This initiative would provide small businesses with the resources to offer more apprenticeships and job opportunities to workers.
