The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) commenced the H-1B visa registration for the fiscal year (FY) 2025 on March 6. The application submission process will continue until March 22.

During this window, prospective petitioners and their representatives are required to use a USCIS online account to electronically register each beneficiary for the selection process and pay the corresponding registration fee.

The USCIS has also introduced new ‘myUSCIS’ organizational accounts aimed at making the process smoother. It facilitates collaboration among multiple individuals within an organization and their legal representatives.

As part of the FY 2025 initial registration, the USCIS has mandated registrants to provide valid passport or travel document information for each beneficiary. This information would have to correspond to the document the beneficiary intended to use for entry into the US if granted an H-1B visa.

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa enabling US companies to employ foreign workers in specialized occupations requiring theoretical or technical expertise. Generally, the roles typically involve fields like finance, technology, architecture, and engineering, among others.

Since there is a huge demand for the visa, the USCIS has put a cap on the number of visas issued each year. The US typically issues about 65K visas every year. In 2022, USCIS issued 72.6 percent of H-1B visas to Indians.
