Indian American Tennis player Rajeev Ram narrowly missed out on a gold medal at the Paris Olympics on Aug.3. His pair with Austin Krajicek won the silver medal in the men’s doubles event after losing to the Australian combination of Mathew Ebden and John Peers.
The Americans won the first set at 7-6. But the Australians fought back tenaciously to take the second set at 7-6 and then held their nerves to win the third set tiebreaker 10-8 to shatter the gold medal finish dream of Ram, one of the oldest tennis players participating in the Games.
Ram, the 2016 silver medalist looked to better the color of the medal in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. In the 2016 Rio Games he paired up with Venus Williams for the mixed doubles event but lost the gold medal game. He and Williams defeated India’s Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza in the semi-finals then.
Two-time Olympic medalist.

For India, its only Olympic medal in tennis was won by Leander Paes in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games where he lost to ultimate champion Andre Agassi in the semi-finals.
Earlier, the oldest player on the tennis circuit, Rohan Bopanna, a known rival of Rajeev Ram, had made his exit in the first round. Bopanna and his partner Balaji were beaten by the French pair G. Monfils and Roger Vasselin 7-5, 6-2.
Incidentally, Mathew Ebden, who partners Rohan Bopanna on the professional tennis circuit, won the gold with his compatriot John Peers defeating Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek 6-7, 7-6, 10-8.
