Leyden Family Service and the Start Here Addiction Rehabilitation and Education (SHARE) Program recognized Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi as their Person of the Year at their 21st annual gala.

Krishnamoorthi was honoured for his unwavering commitment to "improving the communities he serves," including his efforts to secure federal funding for essential upgrades to the SHARE Program's facilities.

The Congressman successfully secured $266,059 in federal funding last year, a news release stated. The funding was designated for the repair and enhancement of the SHARE Program's facilities, aiming to elevate the quality of care delivered to the community members who rely on its services.

“I want to thank Leyden Family Service and the SHARE Program for this honor and the work they do every day to help provide our region with the mental health support it needs,” said Krishnamoorthi. “As our nation works to overcome the opioid epidemic and a range of other mental wellness challenges, I am proud to work with Leyden Family Service and Mental Health and the SHARE Program to serve the needs of our community members,” he added.

The SHARE program offers a vital array of services encompassing treatment programs for individuals dealing with substance abuse, gambling addiction, and various other mental health challenges. As a not-for-profit facility, the program operates as an alcohol and drug detox rehabilitation centre situated in Hoffman Estates.

Additionally, it provides outpatient gambling services. Since its establishment in 1977, the SHARE Program has extended assistance to over 40,000 clients.
