Governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin has appointed Indian-origin IT consultant Raj Patel of Great Falls, Virginia, to the Real Estate Board. Patel will serve a four-year term ending on June 30, 2028.
Patel is the director of information technology at the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. In this role, he is working to modernize the state’s technology, helping agencies collaborate and deploy new tools such as AI, Microsoft Power Apps, Power BI, and robotic process automation to cut costs and improve efficiency.
In July 2024, Patel received an appointment to the Virginia Real Estate Board, where he aids in guiding policies for the Commonwealth's real estate sector.
Raj Patel brings over 30 years of IT leadership experience. Before joining the state government, he held senior roles at major organizations, including vice president of Enterprise Business Solutions at HITT Contracting Inc. (2020-2023), senior director of digital workplace experience at WeWork (2019-2020), chief technology officer at JBG SMITH (2017-2019), and vice president of innovation at Host Hotels & Resorts (2012-2017). Patel also gained experience at firms like Ernst & Young and Majid Al Futtaim.
He is known for his expertise in IT strategy, venture capital, real estate development, and digital transformation. Fluent in French and Gujarati, Patel has served as a trusted advisor on several technology boards throughout his career. He holds an MBA in finance from Georgetown and a B.S. in mathematical economics from UC Berkeley.
