San Diego, California-based Qualcomm has appointed chief financial officer (CFO) Akash Palkhiwala to the role of chief operating officer (COO).
This expansion of responsibilities positions Palkhiwala to oversee not only financial aspects but also the global go-to-market organization, operations, and IT, according to a news release by the company.
Cristiano Amon, president and CEO of Qualcomm, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, highlighting Akash’s integral role in shaping and executing Qualcomm’s business strategy.
“I’m pleased to expand Akash’s CFO role to include that of chief operating officer as Qualcomm executes its growth and diversification strategy,” said Amon.
“Akash has played a key role in the execution of our business strategy as Qualcomm has expanded into new end markets, and is ideally positioned to further align the company’s operations to capture future growth opportunities. I am thrilled to congratulate Akash on this expanded role,” he added.
Palkhiwala has been serving as CFO since 2019. Previously, he held the position of senior vice president and finance lead for QCT, Qualcomm’s semiconductor business.
Having joined Qualcomm in 2001, Palkhiwala has navigated various finance leadership roles within the company, including treasurer, financial planning & analysis, and corporate development.
His academic background includes an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from L.D. College of Engineering in India, followed by an MBA from the University of Maryland.
The company emphasized Palkhiwala’s dual role as crucial which will help in shaping its future endeavors.
