A humanitarian pause has been agreed upon in Gaza, according to the State of Qatar. On November 22, it was announced that the pause would last for 4 days, with the possibility of an extension. The starting time of the pause will be announced within the next 24 hours.

The United States of America, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Qatar worked together as mediators to bring about the agreement between Israel and Hamas. Under the terms of the deal, 50 female and juvenile  Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip will be released by Hamas.

Palestinian women and children held in Israeli prisons are also required to be released as part of the agreement's terms. Qatar’s statement did not mention the number of Palestinian prisoners that Israel has agreed to release. However, it did indicate the number of detainees released would increase at a later stage after the agreement is implemented.

“The State of Qatar affirms its commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, stop the bloodshed, and protect civilians. In this regard, the State of Qatar appreciates the efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America in reaching this agreement,” reads a statement by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Humanitarian relief aid, including fuel, will be allowed into Gaza as part of the agreement. The influx of fuel into Gaza has been highly restricted by Israel since the October 7 attack. Gaza has been receiving fuel only on weekends to keep the essential systems like sewage facilities and water supply systems running, a report said.
