Prime Minister Modi departs for Russia to attend BRICS Summit
Modi said India values the close cooperation within BRICS and hopes for fruitful meetings with several top leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Kazan, Russia on Tuesday on a two-day visit to attend the 16th BRICS Summit. In a pre-departure statement, Modi highlighted the significance of India's involvement in BRICS and the broader agenda that the group addresses.
"India values the close cooperation within BRICS, which has emerged as an important platform for dialogue and discussion on issues concerning the global developmental agenda, reformed multilateralism, climate change, economic cooperation, building resilient supply chains, promoting cultural and people-to-people connect, among others," said Modi.
He also noted the increased inclusivity of BRICS following its expansion last year with the addition of new members, which has furthered the group's agenda for global good.
This visit comes after the Annual Summit held in July 2024 in Moscow. Modi highlighted that the trip will "further reinforce the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia."
The Prime Minister also expressed his anticipation of meeting with other BRICS leaders during the summit.
