The Ayodhya Ram Mandir is set to be open to the public on January 24, 2024, with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the state-of-the-art temple.
Construction, initiated after a historic 2019 Supreme Court judgment, is nearly complete. The total allocated area is 70 acres, with the temple covering 2.7 acres and costing US$ 216 million.
According to the Ram temple trust, the temple is a symbol of self-reliance and environmental sustainability, It boasts a 70 percent green cover, including dense portions with preserved existing trees, sewage and water treatment plants, a dedicated power line, and a fire brigade post.
The temple complex, designed in the traditional Nagara style, will have three stories, 392 pillars, and 44 gates on each floor. The pilgrim facilitation complex will have healthcare facilities, a toilet block, and storage facilities for personal items before ‘darshan’.
Ahead of the January inaugural, PM Modi will visit Ayodhya on December 30 for the inauguration of the redeveloped railway station and a new airport. Air India Express will operate its inaugural flight to Ayodhya from Delhi on December 30, and will commence daily service on the route from January 16. IndiGo will also operate its inaugural flight on December 30 and commence commercial services from January 6.
The Ram Temple Trust has invited political leaders, actors, industrialists, and sports icons to attend the grand inauguration. The trust also has plans to host representatives from 50 foreign countries at the ceremony attended by 7,000 people.
