United States Representative Pramila Jayapal secured $12 million in federal funding for the Northwest Seaport Alliance which aims to develop shared electric truck charging hubs for ports in Seattle and Tacoma in Washington.
The funding came through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), a legislation Jayapal voted for. The $12 million will help build clean energy infrastructure, specifically electric truck charging hubs. It will also provide a sustainable solution for thousands of heavy-duty trucks that transport cargo to and from the ports daily.
Expressing delight over the funding allocation, Jayapal stated, “Ensuring these hubs have the funds they need to build clean energy infrastructure is an investment that will go a long way toward protecting our environment. I was proud to support the Infrastructure Law and am grateful to see this funding heading to our state.”
These hubs will cater to a wide network of approximately 4,500 heavy-duty trucks responsible for cargo-hauling services to the ports of Seattle and Tacoma.
