PM Modi's favourability climbs to 80 % among Indians: Pew survey
The Pew survey released before the G20 conference underlined the largely favourable impression of India worldwide. Notably, Israel saw the strongest positive reaction.

According to a PEW Research Centre survey, around seven in ten Indians believe their nation has recently become more powerful, and about 80 percent of Indians have a favourable opinion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The survey results published on August 29, come ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which will be PM Modi's third attempt to win re-election as Prime Minister. He stated that about eight in ten Indians had a "favourable" opinion of Prime Minister Modi, with the majority (55 percent) having a "very favourable" opinion. According to the Pew survey, only 5% of Indians had a negative opinion of PM Modi in 2023.
In the study, which was conducted before the G20 Summit, it was also found that public opinion of India was largely friendly throughout the world, with a median of 46 per cent reporting favourably towards India compared to 34 per cent negatively. 16 per cent of respondents had no opinion at all. The report said that views of India are most positive in Israel, where 71 per cent say they have a favourable view of the country.
According to Pew, the study was conducted from February 20 to May 22 among 30,861 individuals in 24 countries, including 2,611 from India, to look at how PM Modi is perceived around the world, the extent of India's influence abroad, and Indians' perceptions of other nations.
Responding to the results of the Pew survey, the BJP said the popularity of PM Modi remained intact. "The popularity of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi certainly remains intact! The majority of people in India and across the world believe that India's global influence is getting stronger!" the official handle of BJP said in a post on platform X, formerly Twitter.
Additionally, the research found that 49 percent of Indians believe that the US has grown in power over the past few years, while 41 percent believe that Russia has done likewise. According to the report, Indians' opinions on China's impact are somewhat more divided.
