Plaque of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ unveiled at UN Mission
The plaque was unveiled jointly by India’s permanent ambassador to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, and Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)

India’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, along with Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, the President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) unveiled a ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ plaque at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations (UN) in New York.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is a Sanskrit phrase from ancient Indian scriptures that translates to “the world is one family.” According to the Permanent Mission of India to the UN, the plaque stands as a testament to the significance of unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility in addressing global challenges.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by members of the Indian community at the UN. “Symbol of Unity at Our Doorstep! This plaque now proudly graces the main entrance of the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, embodying our commitment to unity and global collaboration,” Kamboj wrote in a post on X.
In his keynote speech, Sahasrabuddhe said that the philosophy cannot be seen as a standalone doctrinal approach of India, but it is inherent to the country’s world view.
“It is historic that Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is being discussed where it requires to be discussed. And the times are also such that we need to discuss this. In fact, there is perhaps no better way to articulate the organisational mission of the United Nations than Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” he said at the conference organised by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN along with the ICCR.
