The Indian government is set to confer the Padma Shri, its fourth-highest civilian award, to France-based Indian-origin yoga teacher Kiran Vyas and Mexico-based agriculture scientist, Ravi Prakash Singh.
79-year-old, Vyas, is the founder of the Tapovan Open University of Yoga and Ayurveda in Paris. He chose to settle in France to make Ayurveda “science of life” popular and accepted in Europe.
Congratulating Vyas on being awarded the prestigious Padma Shri, the Indian embassy in Paris stated "his journey weaves education, Ayurveda, sustainable lifestyle and environmental consciousness."

Mexico-based Singh is known for his pivotal role in increasing food production and nutritional security in India and several other countries. He is specially recognized for introducing high-yield wheat that helped millions of people across the world. He was named for the award for his contributions to the field of science and engineering.

Expressing gratitude, Singh said that he feels honored to see his work being recognized. A BHU alumnus, Singh has made major contributions to the development of more than 730 wheat varieties in partnership with public and private entities across 49 countries. During a recent event, Indian Ambassador to Mexico Pankaj Sharma congratulated Dr Ravi Prakash Singh for the honor.

The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honors of India declared on the eve of Republic Day every year. The Padma Shri is awarded for distinguished service in various fields of activities and disciplines.
