Forbes recently released its list of Highest-Paid Female Athletes and Indian badminton player P. V. Sindhu clinched the 16th position, tying with 26-year-old gymnast Simone Biles. At just 28 years old, Sindhu made it to the 16th spot with a net worth of $7.1 million.
The 28-year-old athlete, a two-time Olympic medalist and the 2019 badminton world champion, extended her success beyond the field, as she proved to be a marketing force in India. In 2023, Sindhu expanded her sponsorship portfolio by securing partnerships with Centuary Mattress and American Pistachio Growers.
The spot in the 2023 list is Sindhu’s first rodeo. The badminton star was on the list for consecutive four years. In 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022, Sindhu secured positions on the list with earnings of $8.5 million, $5.5 million, $7.2 million, and $7.1 million, respectively.
Sindhu holds several other records in her career. She stands as the first and only Indian badminton world champion and the second individual athlete from India to secure consecutive Olympic medals, winning in both the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Her career-high was a world ranking of No. 2 in April 2017 and five medals at the BWF World Championships, matching the record set by China's Zhang Ning. Moreover, she has won national awards like the Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan.
