Oxford University has ended its association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the technical service provider for the university's admission tests.

On its website, the UK-based university stated that the decision to terminate its relationship with the tech giant was taken after candidates encountered technical issues during online admission tests in 2023.

"We have undertaken a detailed review of the issues to understand better how and why these occurred and taken on board the expert and valuable feedback shared,” the university noted, adding that pro-vice-chancellor for education, professor Martin Williams, recently wrote to all test centers to communicate the decision to end ties with TCS.

Meanwhile, the university is finding alternative options for 2024 and beyond, and will communicate the new arrangements, "no later than the start of the new admissions cycle in early Spring."

TCS replaced Cambridge Admissions Assessment Testing (CAAT) as a technical service provider for Oxford University in April 2023. TCS iON was deployed to support the admission tests for the university, including CAT (Classics Admissions Test); HAT (History Admissions Test); MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test); MLAT (Modern Languages Admissions Test); PAT (Physics Admissions Test); and the philosophy test, according to a report by the Times of India.

TCS iON is a strategic unit that focuses on small and manufacturing industries, educational institutions and examination boards, as per TCS website. The integrated information technology solution was first announced in February 2011.
