Women athletes are keeping the Indian flag flying high at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, following in the footsteps of Manu Bhaker (shooting), who recently became the first woman to win two medals at the same Olympic games.

On July 31, double Olympic medalists PV Sindhu (badminton), Deepika Kumari (archery), and Lovlina Borgohain (boxing) moved closer to the quarterfinals. Sindhu defeated Kristin Kauuba of Estonia 21-5, 21-10, while Deepika made a winning start in the individual event, winning narrowly in a shoot-off to advance to the next round. Deepika, along with Bhajan Kaur, who also qualified for the next round of archery, will be hoping for India's first Olympic medal in the event.

In Table Tennis, Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra, playing against World Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, lost in the round of 16. Despite the loss, the two paddlers made history for India at the Olympics in table tennis by becoming the first to reach the round of 16.

Male athletes, particularly badminton stars Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, also saw wins in their respective matches on July 31. They will now compete with each other in the men's singles round of 16. In boxing too, Nishant Dev (men's 71 kg) saw victory and is one win away from securing a medal after advancing to the quarterfinals.

Anush Agarwalla, the sole horserider from India, achieved a groundbreaking feat in individual dressage despite elimination. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, Agarwalla rode Sir Caramello Old to a ninth-place finish in Group E of the Dressage Grand Prix Individual Qualifier.
