According to a new poll conducted for CNN by SSRS, President Joe Biden is trailing the majority of Republican presidential candidates vying for a nomination in the primary.
While there is no clear winner in hypothetical matchups between Biden and GOP candidates like Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie, and Mike Pence, Nikki Haley has emerged as the only candidate in the poll who could potentially pose a threat to the reigning President if it came down to the two of them.
Haley holds a clear lead with 49 per cent of respondents voting for her while 43 per cent voted for President Biden in the hypothetical contest between the two. Ron DeSantis and Biden fared even with both receiving 47 per cent of the votes, Ramaswamy held 45 per cent of votes while 46 per cent voted for Biden.
The CNN poll was conducted between August 25-31 among 1,503 adult respondents drawn from a probability-based panel. As per the results, Republican and Republican-leaning voters are deeply motivated to vote in 2024, compared to Democratic-aligned voters. 71 per cent of GOP-leasing voters said they would most definitely head to the polling booths compared to 61 per cent of Democrats who said the same.
The poll results came on the heels of Haley’s recent interview with CBS where she claimed she does not think Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee. “I do not think President Trump's going to be the nominee. I think it is going to be me,” she said, further adding, “The American people are not going to vote for a convicted criminal.”
