New Jersey township recognizes October 2023 as Hindu Heritage Month

South Brunswick Township recognized October 2023 as Hindu Heritage Month. A resolution was proposed by The Hindu American Society of Central New Jersey (South Brunswick Chapter) which approved by the township council with an overwhelming majority in its meeting.
Through this resolution, the township aims to acknowledge the contributions made by Hindu residents and increase awareness of the community. As the Hindu heritage, spreads a message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" which means “the World is one family”, the resolution emphasizes the interconnectedness and unity of all people and nations.

The nine days of Navratri (nine nights) honor the divine feminine. In many parts of India, this time is celebrated as Durga Puja, honoring the victory of Goddess Durga over evil. Several local organizations have planned to celebrate the Navratri Garba event in the township.
Karwa Chauth is an annual one-day festival that honors the Hindu god Shiva and goddess Parvati. It occurs on the fourth day after the full moon in the Hindu month of Kartik. On this day, married women fast from sunrise to moonrise, praying for the well-being of their husbands.
Diwali or Deepawali or the “festival of lights” will be celebrated on Sunday, November 12th this year. It is celebrated by millions of Indian origin people in several countries across the world and is an important festival for Hindus, Jains and Sikhs.
