New Jersey man pays tribute to Bollywood’s ‘Shahenshah’ with lifesize statue

A lifelong admiration for superstar Amitabh Bachchan led Indian-American Gopi Sheth to honor him with a lifesize statue outside his New Jersey home. As the tribute sparked global buzz, New India Abroad sat down with Sheth and family to uncover the real story behind the tribute.

The world is full of surprises. Sometimes, the most unexpected connections between two completely different people living miles apart, become the most meaningful. New Jersey-based Gopi Sheth had never thought that performing on an iconic Bollywood song ‘Khaike Paan Banaras Wala’ in the fourth grade would ignite a fascination toward a famous Bollywood personality and one of the most influential actors in the Indian cinema – Amitabh Bachchan.

From admiring him on the silver screen to eventually meeting him in person, life came to a full circle for Sheth. He realized that this fascination is not just a fleeting one, it has blossomed into deep admiration and respect, transcending into a beautiful bond.
