Monideepa Tarafdar appointed Editor-in-Chief of JAIS

As editor-in-chief, Tarafdar will lead JAIS in publishing cutting-edge research and continue to advance the field of information systems.

The Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), a leading journal in the field of information systems, has named Indian-American researcher Monideepa Tarafdar as its new editor-in-chief effective Sept 1, 2024. 

Tarafdar will succeed Dorothy E. Leidner who served as editor-in-chief for JAIS since 2018. She will be responsible for streamlining operations of the journal fromsubmissions, pre-prints, copy editing and production as well as overseeing changes in the journal’s logo, page template, website, manuscript review system among others.

Commenting on the role, Tarafdar said, “I view my role as that of a steward, committed to nurturing and advancing the highest quality research in our field. I look forward to working with colleagues on the board to champion innovative, relevant, and rigorously developed conceptual and empirical contributions to our discipline.”

Currently the Charles J. Dockendorff Endowed Professor of Information Systems at the Isenberg School of Management, Tarafdar has a wealth of experience  and is regarded as a prominent figure in the field of information systems. 

Her research focuses on the positive and negative impacts of modern technology and artificial intelligence. Prior to her current role at Isenberg, Tarafdar was a professor at Lancaster University Management School in the United Kingdom and held positions at the University of Toledo. 

She has also served as a visiting scholar at prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics, MIT Sloan School, and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, where she earned her Ph.D. with a major in management information systems and a minor in strategic management.
