MIT Sloan’s SP Kothari joins Rishihood’s advisory board

Prof. Kothari is the Gordon Y. Billard Professor of Accounting and Finance at MIT Sloan and former Chief Economist at the US SEC.

Professor SP Kothari, a globally recognized academic and policymaker, has been appointed as the chairperson of Rishihood University’s Board of Advisors.

With decades of experience in education, governance, and public policy, Prof. Kothari will play a key role in expanding the university’s curriculum, faculty development, and international partnerships. His expertise will support Rishihood’s mission to foster leadership and innovation.

Prof. Kothari is the Gordon Y. Billard Professor of Accounting and Finance at MIT Sloan School of Management and a former Chief Economist at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. 

He was honored with India’s prestigious Padma Shri award in 2020 for his outstanding contributions to literature and education. His career includes leadership roles such as Deputy Dean at MIT Sloan, global head of equity research at Barclays Global Investors, and director at the Bombay Stock Exchange. He has also received honorary doctorates from institutions like London Business School and the University of Cyprus.

Prof. Kothari said, “India has a historic opportunity to become a developed nation and contribute to global development. Educational institutions will play a fundamental role in this process.”

Expressing his excitement about his new role, he added, “I am delighted to join the advisory board of Rishihood at this juncture and help it in becoming a world-class university. I am particularly excited about the culture of problem-solving and the impact it will have through its challenging curriculum and pedagogy.”

Suresh Prabhu, former Union Minister and Chancellor of Rishihood University, welcomed Prof. Kothari, saying, “We are honored to have someone of his eminence and scholarly excellence to advise our institution-building efforts.”

Rishihood’s CEO, Sahil Aggarwal, spoke about the university’s vision, explaining its three-step framework for impact: vyakti (individual), vichaar (ideas), and vyavastha (institutions).

Aggarwal added, “Through his commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and public policy, Prof. Kothari is a real-life example and role model for the kind of impact we wish to create.”

Rishihood University, located in Sonipat, Haryana, is redefining higher education by combining India’s traditional knowledge with modern teaching methods and practical learning.
